Well it was my 5th running of the Great Race, but ended as the Worst Race :(.
85 degrees at the finish, 100% sunny and humidity made for a awful race, that ended with two major blisters one one each little toe. OUCH.
I should of finished in the mid-38’s and was on pace at the 5k mark, but the blisters was to much to handle and was 3 minutes slower the final 5k. A week before, I hit a 40 flat without trying at the US Air Force 10km at Dayton, OH.
All the Great Race 10k Stats are Here (at 35 minutes Optical HR died and returned at 37)…
This race went perfect and should be a good indicator for next weeks race in Pittsburgh. I wanted to run at a 40 minute 10k and 6:25 pace and ran a 40:17 and 6:27, not bad. I placed 6th overall and 1st 40-44 AG.
I ran the last 1/2 mile less than 3 minutes, to pass three other runners to capture 6th overall.
This morning in Boyce Park, I ran the Pittsburgh Wild trail 10k and placed first overall with a time of 46:09. This is probably one of the toughest races I’ve ever run.
I won some serious loot, too. $30 Elite Runners gift, $15 RoadID gift, Pearl Izumi Tri Elite Short and shirt, 1st place plaque and metal.

With my recent loss, it was tough for me to win such an honorable award and not be able to share the great news with my dad.
I pondered what I should say, this is truly an honor to be voted by my peers. Thank you, to the XC athletes, USATF Three Rivers Association, Greensburg YMCA XC, Brooks Running and the Coach ID program, and most importantly my family.
The Association is excited to complete the first year of the program by acknowledging the cross county winners below with a commemorative plaque and sharing more on each awardee in the newsletter found here.

Thanks Brooks Running! My kids loved these beanie hats and the other teams were envious! Not picture was the black Brooks crew socks, fantastic gifts that I used for personal Cross Country achievements. Just another way to keep the kids motivated. Keeping youth Cross Country running happy!
