SwimSports+ released!

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/3ae9729f-c364-451b-9ca4-ca540749f6e7

  • Activity support (Open Water*, Lap Pool*, Stationary swimming)
  • **GPS is 4x more active for improved open water.
  • In-place swimming support!
  • Other swimming support (kick-board ,Water Cardio and HotTub\Spa)
  • 4 LARGE screens and easy read Rest Mode screen.
  • IQ Graphs and Data: SWOLF, Stroke Rate, Swim+ Distance, Average distance/stroke,Seconds/stroke, heart rate, Total Strokes, battery used
  • Sensor Support (Optical HR*
  • Optical HR will use ‘Other’ Activity Type.
  • AutoLap (pool lap, Distance or Position)
  • Pool lap detection uses 5 metrics to compute lap pool distance***. Counts laps and distance
  • No pool size restriction
  • Transitions for total workout information (CIQ 2.0)

*Generic Activities available to bypass optical HR restrictions.

**GPS signal is blocked while GPS receiver is submersed in water. Results may provide improved results due to increased sampling.

***Due to Garmin policy, Non-GPS distance values cannot be written to the main distance fields in Garmin Connect. SwimSport+ writes the NonGPS Distance Data in CIQ data section.

  1. Just waiting for the page to be available so I can get it. Getting this error when I click the link;
The page you are looking for was not found.
If you were looking for a specific app, it may no longer be available, or you may not have permission to view it.

  2. love the app so far, just wondering if you can change it from Meters to yards as most pools in the US are measured in yards. Also, I love the fact it gives me a bit extra but when i swim 1700 yards it says i swam 17,000. How do I fix this? also, is there a user manuel for this app? I don’t know what half of the stuff means or what it does

    • Jason,
The app internally displays either yard or meters based on the watch distance units (miles or kilometers). But the input for pool length is in meters, for a 25 yard pool use 22.86 meters. From the 17,000, it looks as if the pool length in settings is off by a factor of 10. The settings will accept a float value(22.86).
      Brian.

  3. using Garmin 245. I’d like to record my HR, should I choose ‘Open Swim’ or ‘Generic OpenSwim?’ Are there any other differences in choosing ‘Generic?’

    • Newer watches with the 3rd generation optical can use the Open/lap swim older optical sensor watches should use the Generic if optical heart rate is wanted.

    • At the SwimSports+ start screen. Long press the up button (VA4/Venu long press the lap button) or long touch the screen, then select the pool size and adjust. Pool Length can be set in the SwimSport+ app setting at phone too.
      Hope that helps!
      Brian 😀

  4. I love the ability to track laps on a 9m pool, and distance is displayed correctly while swimming, but once the activity was over it recorded 67m swim over 3 minutes instead of 500m over 15 minutes or so. Is that a bug/limitation of the free trial version or is that related to the Garmin policy of not writing non-gps distances to the field?

    • The difference between open and Generic open swim is how the activity is saved to Garmin Connect. The Generic Open Swim is saved using the Generic activity type. This allows the optical sensor to be enabled on all CIQ 3.0 watch types. If you use the Open Swim, only the Fenix 6 can use the optical and all others will need a HRM-Swim chest heart rate monitor.

    • GPS doesn’t work while open water swimming. Breast swimming? Submerged? It shows a walk at the beach.
Is Glonass or Galileo better in germany?

      • I prefer the GALILEO
Breaststroke is very tough for GPS signal.

        1. GPS signal accuracy is degraded when swimming.  100% of GPS signal lost below 1 inch of water.  The time your watch hand is in the water the watch receives NO GPS signal.   This means the free stroke GPS tracks are degraded by 50% verses a run or a bike ride.  Breast Stroke is 100% since hand is submerged.
        2. SDK 3.2 includes GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite options to CIQ apps and the SwimSports app is set to use these features.  Galieo/Glonass will allow quicker GPS reception and better GPS tracks.

Items that may help you get better results.

        1. Start with a solid GPS lock 20-30 seconds before starting
        2. Set data recording to every second, this helps the entire system including GPS.   Main menu>settings>system>data recording> set to every second
        3. Get better GPS signal to your watch
        1. You could attach your watch to head cap, this is a common by method to get near perfect GPS data.  There is the risk of losing the head cap though.
        2. Use a ‘Swim Buoy’, many swimmers use these for great GPS signals and gives some visibility to boaters.

  5. I tried in an endless Pool today , I set In Place Lap Swim and Distance/Stroke 1.5 (my usual average according to open water Garmin )… but I measured twice the distance I was supposed to Swim reading at the pool display.. I had to half the distance per stroke to calibrate . Is it normal?

    • this is correct. Garmin uses double the actual value but in real life the watch is only on one hand. therefore, the app only calculates using only the watch hand.

      • thanks, tried today on endless pool (setting In Place Lap Swim; Distance/Stroke 0.72) but I had another problem: the watch measured everything right (just 15 mt difference over 3000),BUT…when i saved:
        1. It shows me the summary in yards (?)
        2. when sync to Garmin Connect it shows everything wrong (575m instead of around 3000…looks like it counts pools of 25 m length )

what did I do wrong? For endless pool swimming what setting should I use? thanks
